Things to Do in McKinney, TX

A celebration of art and wine in Downtown McKinney, Arts in Bloom features 150 juried artists. The local village and the Student Art Tent from the McKinney Independent School District are set up in the area surrounding the McKinney Performing Arts Center. This three-day event features Texas wineries, food vendors, fine artists, performances, live music, and so much more. 

Red, White and BOOM! is an entire day of free family fun in celebration of the Fourth of July. Alongside live entertainment and a spectacular fireworks show, you'll find tons of free family activities, a classic car, truck, and cycle show, and a hometown parade.

The Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most important attractions in the city. This nature preserve features a sprawling wildlife sanctuary, 50 untouched acres of wetlands, a butterfly house, indoor and outdoor exhibits, hiking trails, and a native plant garden. 

Golf fans will be excited to know that the AT&T Byron Nelson will be played at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney starting in 2021. This five-year agreement provides a new home for this charitable fundraising tournament.

According to Niche, McKinney’s Independent School District is ranked #14 on the list of best school districts in Texas. McKinney is home to the Central Park Campus of Collin College and two K-12 private schools: McKinney Christian Academy and Cornerstone Christian Academy.
