Great Places in Dallas Real Estate

created by Keller Williams Luxury Realtor, Jane Clark

Dallas is a bustling and diverse city known for both its nightlife, restaurants, and entertainment—as well as its renowned public schools and superb environment for young families. Below are five neighborhoods in the Dallas area that prospective homeowners should explore if they’re interested in relocating (or upgrading) in this one-of-a-kind Texan metropolis.

1. University Park

University Park is a Dallas County neighborhood that, along with Highland Park, is part of what’s known as the Park Cities. This area is home to Southern Methodist University and was built surrounding the large school. University Park is fifteen minutes away from the heart of Dallas, but its picturesque streets are lined with arching trees and the area is full of early twentieth-century architecture that’s reminiscent of a Texan small town within a major city.

The area was developed in the early 1920s and there are plenty of elegant estates available to prospective homebuyers. Despite its proximity to the city, University Park really has a small-town feel and is perfect for those looking to live in a quiet community next to a large metropolis.

Of course, if you want a taste of the city outside of University Park, there’s always Dallas proper, but many residents opt to stay within the neighborhood to take advantage of its acclaimed restaurants and shopping. One such opportunity is the Snider Plaza, a well-kept, three-block shopping zone with restaurants and a great atmosphere. Day spas and nail salons abound in the area, making it easy for locals to relax in their beautiful neighborhood.

2. Highland Park

Highland Park is known regionally as the heart of luxury in Texas. Locals enjoy plenty of posh amenities, including the Spanish-styled Highland Park Village, which is home to a variety of high-end retailers like Hermes, Dior, and Chanel. Locals also enjoy attending movie premieres at the Village Theater and indulging in local food and cocktails.

In the heart of Highland Park are several stunning parks. Lakeside is renowned for the thousands of azaleas that bloom there in the spring every year, an oasis just minutes from downtown. Residents also light a giant pecan tree each holiday season to bring the community together.

Highland Park homes are known for their expansiveness and opulence. The area is popular with residents who are raising families and sending their children to Highland Park’s top-rated schools. Highland Park also offers a colorful nightlife, centered around dining at the many classically-Texan eateries. After a day of viewing Highland Park homes for sale, review your options with a handcrafted cocktail at one of the neighborhood’s distinct and moody watering holes.

3. Downtown Dallas

downtown dallas

Downtown Dallas is the heart of this bustling city, which together with Fort Worth is one of the nation’s largest metropolitan areas. Living in a luxury home in Downtown Dallas while working in the city means short commutes and a convenient lifestyle complete with lots of walking or biking around downtown. Dallas has adopted the Pegasus as their town symbol, which pays homage to the city’s original oil company that existed in the area in the 1930s.

Downtown Dallas luxury homes are coveted because of their ease of access to the city, and their beautiful architecture. Residents are close to the many amenities of city life but are also just a short drive to the suburbs when they need a break from the hustle.

Beyond sports, dining, and nightlife, Downtown Dallas is a hub for the city’s largest civic celebrations. Every year on Dia de Los Muertos, thousands of people flock downtown to celebrate the passing of their loved ones, it’s an event that truly reflects the area’s dedication to building a diverse community. Downtown Dallas also hosts the YMCA turkey trot every year in November, a popular community event with a race and other family activities to enjoy.

4. Lake and Garden District

lake and Garden district

The Lake and Garden District, located just outside of Downtown Dallas, is known for the scenic White Rock Lake and is also home to the breathtaking Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. At the lake, locals enjoy canoeing, kayaking, hiking, and biking and there are eleven garden displays at the arboretum, including the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Gardens which is a great destination for kids.

For breakfast in the Lake and Garden District, a local favorite is the Green Spot which is located in an old gas station, and offers everything from breakfast tacos (with cage-free eggs), to expertly brewed coffee. For lunch or dinner, make sure to visit Dallas’ oldest vegetarian restaurant, Kalachandji’s, for soups, bread, curries, and dessert.

5. Mesquite

This small neighborhood is full of country-western vibes, art, and agriculture. There are plenty of outdoor activities to be enjoyed, and Mesquite has been dubbed the “Rodeo Capital of Texas.” Each year Mesquite hosts the Mesquite Championship Rodeo and hundreds of people flock to this exciting event. Another popular attraction in Mesquite is Celebration Station, a place for families of all ages to enjoy attractions like laser tag, paintball, and retro arcade games. To take in some local nature, visit Trinity Forest Adventure Park.

    Highland Park

    Welcome to Highland Park

A life of luxury, exclusivity, glamour, and prestige

Within the heart of north central Dallas lies Highland Park, one of the most affluent and desirable neighborhoods in the state and nation. This central community boasts palatial estates, prestigious educational opportunities, and unmatched proximity to dining, shopping, nightlife, and other amenities. Mature oaks line the quiet streets protecting some of the most glamorous estates in Texas, all just blocks away from the excitement and allure of the city. Quite simply put, no other neighborhood in Dallas comes close to the luxury, prestige, and quality of Highland Park.

In the early 1900s, the development of Highland Park began, with the city being partially designed by Wilbur David Cook who had planned much of Beverly Hills. Today, this exclusive luxury still remains thanks to the city’s extensive zoning laws and unmatched quality of construction. Highland Park is home to classical Beaux Arts-style estates with several new, modern manors being constructed in recent years featuring the latest technology and most high-end finishes.

    What to Love

    • The unparalleled epitome of glamorous Dallas living
    • A stone’s throw away from world-class dining, shopping, and conveniently situated freeways
    • Non-existent crime rates in the heart of a bustling city
    • Only three miles from Love Field Airport

    Local Lifestyle

Simply put, residents of Highland Park enjoy an elevated standard of living in all aspects of life. Students attend world-class schools, high-paying jobs in powerful downtown offices are located close by, and plenty of leisure options can be found immediately within the neighborhood. This quiet enclave is conveniently located between multiple freeways, making it easy to get around the city. However, most residents don’t need to venture off too far from home very frequently. Downtown is a stone’s throw away, luxury shops are just blocks from home, trendy shops and nightlife is found in neighboring Uptown, and prestigious clubs and golf courses are located within Highland Park.

    Dining, Entertainment, and Shopping

Highland Park is home to some of Dallas’ finest restaurants and most luxurious shopping. Elegant European cuisine, exquisite caviar, and authentic internationally inspired creations can all be found close to home.

Bistro 31 serves classical European favorites in an elegant dining room boasting white tablecloths, stunning chandeliers, a warm, inviting aura, and a shady patio. Lobster bisque, crabcakes, seared foie gras, and Nutella tiramisu are just a few of their popular menu offerings, all of which pair well with their colorful cocktail menu served in stylish designer-inspired stemware.

In the immediately adjacent Knox/Henderson neighborhood, Up On Knox is a chic, upscale spot to enjoy caviar, oysters, and craft cocktails in a bright setting. The house burger and grilled salmon are go-to creations among locals, but the weekend brunch is the most popular time to visit. Homemade buttermilk biscuits, creamy avocado toast, lobster BLTs, and creative cocktails to top off these midday comforts.

Nonna is an authentic Italian eatery serving fresh pasta, pizza, antipasti plates, and classic desserts. The recent winner of an Open Table Diners’ Choice award, Nonna has developed a popular reputation for its unique white clam pie, lobster ravioli, and quintessential Italian cocktails.

One of Dallas’ most prestigious shopping destinations is located within the heart of Highland Park. Highland Park Village was the first luxury shopping center of its kind in the nation, setting the trend for hundreds of others to follow. Declared as a National Historic Landmark, Highland Park Village is home to luxury brands like Chanel, Valentino, Cartier, and several exquisite dining options such as Bistro 31, Café Pacific, and Bird Bakery.

    Things To Do

While Highland Park boasts luxurious shops and eateries, this peaceful enclave is also home to several opportunities for enjoying peace and quiet outdoors. Located adjacent to Highland Park Village, the Dallas Country Club is one of the most exclusive memberships in the city. Members of this prestigious club spanning nearly 120 acres are afforded access to world-class amenities, exquisite facilities, premier on-site dining, and a robust social calendar. Turtle Creek Park is situated on the southern side of Highland Park, boasts a rich history, and is one of the most scenic spots in Dallas. Klyde Warren Park is a more urban alternative in the heart of downtown positioned atop the Woodall Rodgers Freeway. This urban oasis is one of the more Instagrammable parks in town and is also home to over 320 recently planted trees.

    Schools

While Dallas is home to several excellent schools, Highland Park is home to the number-three school district in Texas. Each school boasts high rankings within:

    • Highland Park Independent School District, prekindergarten-12th grade; over 70% of HPISD teachers have Masters degrees, the district has earned a reputation for post-secondary educational readiness, and students are regularly named National Merit Scholars, fostering an environment of success and excellence

In fact, it is considered the most cosmopolitan metroplex in Texas – and the epicenter for arts, culture, entertainment, and especially fine dining and cuisine. The metroplex is also home to several schools and colleges, and is now a central hub for the telecommunications and Internet marketing industries. As a result, more people are opting for Dallas-Fort Worth than any other area in the state. The result is a strong demand for homes that offer true living at its finest. From spacious closets and bedrooms to contemporary décor and green options, there are so many homes in Dallas that are ripe for the picking. The city also has a busting downtown scene with plenty of lofts, cinemas, museums, zoos, and other activities for the entire family.
