Welcome to Dallas

Gateway to the North Texas Industrial Corridor

Dallas, Texas – THEN

Dallas sits on the Trinity River in the center of Dallas County where major Interstate highways converge. The city’s expansion began when securing rail service and Dallas found itself in a wonderful geographic position for transportation of abundant regional products. Cotton became the region's principal cash crop, and Elm Street in Dallas was its market. Dallas became the world center for the leather and buffalo-hide trade. During the 1920s and 1930s popular music was centered in Deep Ellum which was a hotspot for major jazz and blues musicians.  A big city was born.
